What is the thyroid? The thyroid gland is a small endocrine gland in the front of the throat. Endocrine glands produce many chemicals in the body which are called hormones. One of the hormones that the thyroid gland produces is thyroxin. Thyroxin helps regulate body temperature and can also influences a woman’s menstrual cycle.
